Tour de Cure Training

I’m not much of a trainer. I’m not much of an “event” rider. So I never train for anything, except my next ride. Following the advice of a good friend and extremely competent road racer (despite his rice crispy addiction), I headed out Saturday for a long hot “training” ride, to get time in the saddle before Saturday’s big event.

I planned to ride 50 miles or 4 hours, whichever came first. When 42 miles arrived with time still on the clock, I was ready to call it good. I still had legs but thought 42 was close enough…plus I was getting really bored with all that smooth road under me. If it wasn’t for all the thoughts of Hawes, Twisted Sister, Wild Horse, and Pass Mountain rocking through my head as I circumnavigated all those pristine MTB trails, I might have fallen asleep…

I texted my “trainer” and he advise me to go another 8. Two more laps around Las Sendas and my four hours were up with 51 miles tracked. A good ride. I hope I am ready to go the distance on Saturday.

Special thanks to all those who have generously donated already including the Verde River Rock House Bed & Breakfast in Payson, AZ.

There is still time to donate to the ADA. I have almost reached my goal of $300. Only $80 more to go. Thanks!
