I did a bikepacking tour that started from Rock Crossing where the AZT is and went down to the Rim and over to Houston Brothers up to the Blue Ridge Reservoir and got help crossing it and back. Quite nice up there right now!

Mark- These trails are awesome, Totally underutilized because they are so remote, and they play second fiddle to Flagstaff. The trails usually dry out early spring mid-april. From Scottsdale you're looking at about a 2 hour drive to the TH. There's a few other trails worth riding up north too. You'd better plan on coming down twice next year.

Dang! Glad to hear you made it out ok. I've never gotten sick in the middle of a ride but after reading your description I hope I never do!

Those trails look awesome. I'm guessing they see snow in the winter? When do they dry out and become rideable? Also, how long of a drive is that area from Scottsdale? I might need to delay my trip (or go down twice) next year...

Dude you are a monster! That sickness sounds exactly like the stomach bug that is flying around the valley right now. It put three members of my household down for 2-4 days. Thanks for the post, it had been more than 2 weeks without an mtbikeaz update and I was going into withdrawal. Your blog gives me inspiration for rides as well as a reason to ride harder.
